Like the University, the Office of the Vice President for Research is focused on both doing good and being great, and uses strategic seed funding to encourage faculty scholarship and collaborative research projects. Faculty development and leadership, collaborative research space, research review and reporting, and fundraising are all key parts of their strategy.

The Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) provides funding to support key initiatives of the University of Virginia’s 2030 Plan.

iTHRIV is a transformational cross-Commonwealth collaboration that leverages the latest advances in data science to accelerate innovation in health-related research and facilitate team science.

The Research Achievement Awards recognize University of Virginia faculty every year for their excellence in research and scholarship.

Every year, the 5-35 faculty members are chosen as Research Communications Fellows. Through the program, fellows will learn how to present their research clearly and concisely through presentations, a website, articles and on-air interviews, and learn about the available resources for faculty at UVA.

The 3Cavaliers program provides support for groups of three collaborative faculty members to self-assemble, formulate and explore creative, high-risk, high-payoff interdisciplinary research ideas that might not be ready for more traditional funding.
